The Genealogical Society of Tasmania was formed in Hobart in April 1980. Subsequently an open meeting of people interested in forming a Launceston Branch of the Society was held at the Kings Meadows High School on 4 November 1980, and the first Annual General Meeting of the Launceston Branch was held on the 7 April 1981.
